To have an award-winning brandy and an entire town named after him, probably would have been a source of great amusement to Joseph Barry who left England in 1817 and settled in Swellendam where he made his fortune as a trader in the Overberg during the first half of the 19th century.

Joseph Barry Cape Potstill Brandy is distilled in time-honoured fashion in copper potstills from St Emillion and Colombar while Barry & Nephews Muscat Potstill Brandy, a delicate, amber brandy, is made from Muscat d'Alexandrie (South Africa's "hanepoot"). The brandies are matured for five and three years respectively. The result? A superbly smooth brandy with rich, honey colours and classic aromas.

Wines

If you prefer wine, try one of our wine ranges - Misty Point, Seven Falls and Tradouw. The names are reminiscent of the wine's origin in the cool mountains surrounding the town. Although all our wines are dry, they are made to refresh and sooth, just like a visit to Barrydale.
Connoisseurs may be interested to know that cool sea breezes coming through the kloof, keep day temperatures in the Barrydale area to well below the Klein Karoo average, creating the ideal cool conditions for noble cultivars.
Otherwise we'll simply tell you that the cellar's wines are a fixture on the awards list at the annual Klein Karoo and Southern Cape wine shows. Come and enjoy them with us!
