To have an award-winning brandy and an entire town named after him, probably would have been a source of great amusement to Joseph Barry who left England in 1817 and settled in Swellendam where he made his fortune as a trader in the Overberg during the first half of the 19th century. Stop at the Barrydale Wine Cellar and toast this visionary with Joseph Barry Cape Potstill Brandy and Barry & Nephews Muscat Cape Potstill Brandy. Joseph Barry Cape Potstill Brandy is distilled in time-honoured fashion in copper potstills from St Emillion and Colombar while Barry & Nephews Muscat Potstill Brandy, a delicate, amber brandy, is made from Muscat d'Alexandrie (South Africa's "hanepoot"). The brandies are matured for five and three years respectively. The result? A superbly smooth brandy with rich, honey colours and classic aromas. |
